Far from any roads, in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a kitty paradise on 5 acres of farmland.
Tomorrow Kitty is a unique combination of open field, gardened landscape, woods, and structures. It's all about the kitties! Here you see sunrise, shortly after feeding. The photo shows Tobi's Diner on the left. BC's Barn on the right. The sun garden behind the diner and barn, and the pastures with barns to the rear.
We feed twice a day at Tomorrow Kitty. Tobi's Diner is our largest feeding station, though there are multiple stations arranged around the main compound. 30 cats gather here when the dinner bell rings. Thank you Tobi K. for sponsoring the construction of this station!
Named for the best buddy of one of our sponsors, BC's Barn is an all-cat hangout for our residents. It is very popular in the winter. Inside are cat shelves, perches, ramps, hidey holes, and sleeping spots, and heated bedrooms. It stays cool in the summer too. Thank you R.H for sponsoring this barn!
Cats love flowing water. The watering hole provides fresh clean flowing water year round. Kitties love to drink here but they also like to sleep in the rocks and plants surrounding the hole.
The main compound is landscaped to provide private nooks and hiding spots. You will always find kitties laying around or playing with butterflies. Parts are shaded, parts are sunny. Kitty's choice!
Kitties love tall grass! We have multiple varieties of tall grass, even bamboo, making up the grass garden. Kitties make little nests, most have their favorite spots. This garden is especially important for our shy population. Hiding in the grass makes them feel safe.
Our flower garden is located in the front pasture area. Tall flowers and shrubs provide plenty of hidey holes and cool spots to lay. Bees and butterflies provide lots of interest. The flower garden is a favorite after dinner gathering location for many of the kitties.
Two pastures (eventually four) encircle the main compound, home to our three goats; Yoda, Leiha, and Chewy. The goats keep our kitties safe from Coyotes. How? By giving our guardian dogs a herd to protect.
Lacey and Reacher are our livestock guardian dogs. They protect the sanctuary from coyotes. The dogs are awake all night, in all weather, on alert for threats. They enjoy having the cats around, but their real mission is to protect the goats. By protecting the goats, they protect the kitties. ZERO coyote events since Reacher and Lacey joined our team in February 2020. Reacher is our male (pictured)
A large woods provides shade and cooler temperatures in the summer. A creek flows through the woods. At the top of the woods is our Eagle Scout pavilion. Built by Eagle Scout Candidate Michael Ruggles in 2017, the multi-level structure provides shelter and housing to our feral population.
Some of our residents must be kept in separate habitats for various reasons. FeLV kitties must be kept away from the general population. Some disabled or behavioral kitties cannot roam. We have multiple habitats for these residents. Typically a habitat includes a barn and an outdoor run. The habitat pictured is an example.
We provide permanent homes for unadoptable kitties: FIV, FeLV, senior, disabled, feral, behavioral, and TNR or dangerous colony relocations. Our kitties have no chance of finding a home in the normal adoption stream.
We are located on over five acres at the base of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in Amherst County, Virginia. Our residents enjoy fields, gardens, a stream, woods, and unique structures built just for them. We love our kitties, and it shows.
Tomorrow Kitty provides a safe and loving "last chance" home to kitties who need it most. Through a network of rescue heroes we take in ill-fated and unwanted kitties with the mission of ensuring them a safe, loving, forever home.
